Guardian Ad Litem

In certain family law and juvenile cases, the court may appoint a Guardian Ad Litem (“GAL”) to help protect the best interests of a child involved in the proceedings. A Guardian Ad Litem serves as an independent advocate for the child and may investigate the circumstances surrounding the case by reviewing records, speaking with parents and other individuals involved, and making recommendations to the court regarding the child’s welfare and best interests. GAL involvement often arises in high-conflict custody disputes, deprived child matters, guardianships, and other cases involving concerns about a child’s safety, stability, or well-being.

Ruhl Family Law understands the serious responsibility involved in Guardian Ad Litem appointments and approaches each case with professionalism, thoroughness, and sensitivity to the unique needs of the child and family. The firm recognizes that these matters are often emotionally charged and require careful attention to the facts, family dynamics, and concerns presented to the court. By maintaining objectivity and focusing on the child’s welfare, Ruhl Family Law works to assist the court in making informed decisions that support the child’s best interests.

When serving as Guardian Ad Litem, the role is not to advocate solely for one parent or another, but rather to provide the court with an independent assessment centered on the child’s needs, safety, and overall well-being. Ruhl Family Law is committed to approaching GAL matters with integrity, sound judgment, and a child-focused perspective while treating all parties involved with professionalism and respect.
